The last two years at Lowell High School in San Francisco, Susie Terence (Area Coordinator - SF) has guided her students to create a visual component for their poems. Some students performed their poems theatrically with props, some composed music for their poem and performed their music while their poem was being read, some danced to their poem, one student created a video related to his poem, and many students created visual projects.
For their visual projects, students could create three dimensional work: dioramas, mobiles, or construct objects containing their poems. Several of their visual projects were displayed in the San Francisco Main Library and some will soon be displayed at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco through the SFUSD Youth Arts Festival.
